Contact Patch: Tire Warmers

Street tires are, among other engineering traits, compounded to heat up quickly. Slicks, uh, no. For whatever reason it seems the stickier the tire, the longer it takes to heat up; even hyper sport tires vs touring tires. Hence the tire warmer. Dave explains their use and abuse.

Ned, Dave Williams editor replying here. My fault, I had the wrong embed code in there. I think I’ve got it fixed now. Thx for taking the time to tell us.

    Thanks for fixing the link.

Now after watching the video on tire warmers and hearing different people on track days, saying hypersport tires do not need tire warmers, I have dilemma when watching my unpacked warmers

I am running hyper sport dot tires (Pirellis SPs, Bridge S21s, Metzeler K3s, **experimenting) on my track days and moving back and forth from B to A group (not racing) on different tracks,

Whether should I use warmers or not if I stay with those type of tires on my track days? Is there a benefit or not of using warmers with hypersport tires on track?

    Thanks and best regards,
    Nenad

P.S. Maybe my dilemma is worth a short video. 🙂
